  1. There are diffrent types of bettas based on the tails but they are all the same species of betta's.

The crowntail is a betta that has reduced webbing between the points so it creates a spikey "crown like" appearance.  My vlad pictured in my avatar is one such crowntail or CT.

Bettas can be born with several diffrent tail types like the veil tale (most common and normally found in pet stores), crown tail, delta tail (looks like a fan), halfmoon (tail spreads to a full half circle), double tail, halfsun (spikey halfmoon), or short tail more commonly reffered to as plakat or fighter type.  However, whatever tail your betta is born with is what its stuck with, just like the color of you skin or eyes.

This is part of the reason bettas are so popular, there's sooo much variety.

  2. crowntail are betta fish, there are several different tail types for bettas, most standard petstore bettas are veiltails, but there are also crowntails, half moons, delta/superdelts, plakats, doubletails, and wilds

  3. crown betta fish has a unique crown shaped tail with "spikes" on the end, like the ends of a crown. It's just a fancy name for a type of male betta.

  4. Crowns have a bigger spiky looking tail

  5. With bettas, there are several different tail types. Think of it like different breeds of dogs - there are Golden Retrievers, Beagles, and Pugs - they look different, but they are all dogs.

Various tail types include Veiltail, Crowntail, Delta, Super Delta, Halfmoon, Doubletail, and Plakat. Most pet store fish are Veiltail, although various stores have started selling Crowntails as well as Halfmoons and Super Deltas.

All the tail types of bettas can breed together as well. However, they cannot change their tail type - it would be like a Pug turning into a Golden Retriever, going back to the dog example.
