    good luck!

  2. The main difference is that a Charter School is not bound by the same laws and mandates as public school. It is not required to provide special education services, for example, although public schools are. Charter Schools don't have to follow the local School Committee policies the way that public schools do.  They are not usually taught by unionized teachers, so they are not bound by the teachers' contract. This means that they can do things very differently than public schools. They can have longer or shorter days, different vacations, etc. They can choose not to offer gym classes (public schools can't).  They can choose to limit the sizes of classes (public schools can't).  They can decide not to accept any students who are not fluent in English (public schools can't).  They can decide not to take time away from the curriculum to teach about health and wellness (public schools can't).  You get the idea!

It's too bad that you didn't see a difference between your charter school and the public school, as many people are hoping that the charters will bring more flexibility and creativity to public education.
