Whats the difference between a class M1 and class M2 license?

According to California DMV, M2 is a moped/scooter license and a M1 is a motorcycle license.

I have an M1 and ride a motorcycle so I highly doubt that a M1 is a moped/scooter license.

M1 License: You may operate any two-wheel motorcycle, motor driven cycle or motorized scooter and all vehicles listed under Class M2.

M2 License: You may operate any motorized bicycle (moped), any bicycle with an attached motor, or a motorized scooter.

The guy above it correct.  If you are going to get motorized license, you should go for the M2

I think the guy above me is correct, cuz I havea  M1 in california and riding my 1000cc sport bike
