Whats the difference between a compound and a molecule? what would you consider H2 [the elemental state of H]?

  1. A compound is a substance which is formed by chemical combination of two or more elements.On breaking it up, it transforms into its constituent elements which possesses different properties.Ex:CaCO3,H2O etc.

    A molecule is an aggregation of two or more atoms of the same element. It retains its individual properties upto the last atom.

    Ex: Ur Question,H2 is a molecule of hydrogen but H is a single atom of the gas.
