Okay so I'm writing a book but I don't want to make it the "King and queen and prince." I want to make it like Anastasia. So Can you please explain the whole royal family of a dutchess and stuff to me please. Thank you. :)

  2. Different nations have different hierarchies.  Today, people know about royal familes:  King, Queen, Prince, Princess.  In the past, other familes existed that were "Imperial":  Emperor, Empress, Grand Duke and Grand Duchess or Archduke and Archduchess (in Austria, for example).  Other states were headed by Princes (Monaco and Liechtenstein today), Grand Dukes (only Luxembourg now), or even just royal dukes (many defunct German states).  Most familes headed by Princes, Grand Dukes or royal Dukes had children who titled as Prince/Princess.  In Austria, the next rank after Emperor was "Archduke".  In Russia, the next rank after Emperor (Tsar) was "Grand Duke".  If you are writing a book, have some fun with it!

  3. Simple most grand dutchesses are royal and other dutchesses are not royal simple as that.

Her Royal Highness Grand Dutchess of

Her Grace Dutchess of what ever

  4. First off, there's no t in it, it's just duchess (yeah, Fergie got it wrong).  Second, the reason she was a Grand Duchess and not a regular Duchess was because her father was the Tsar, which is different than a King.  "Tsar" is the Russian translation of Caesar.  Russia at the time of Anastasia was like an empire, like the Roman Empire that Caesar ruled over for a time.  So since there was a Tsar of All the Russias (the actual title) and not a King, there were Grand Duchesses, not Princesses.  Grand Duchesses have the same rank as a Princess, but just a different name.  I hope I helped!

  6. A Grand Duchess would be a female descendant of the Tsar.

Although it is the equivalent to Princess in that hierarchy, a Grand Duchess is actually an Imperial Highness, which is the highest level of Royalty. If there were Grand Duchesses now, they would be below a reigning monarch, but above any princesses.

    They were styled HIH.

  7. Mostly the country.  The daughters of the Czar were titled as Grand Duchesses, and every cousin was a prince or princess.

In most other countries, the son of the monarch is a prince or princess, and his wife is a princess, unless they are retitled as duke/duchess.

For instance, the brothers of Louis XIV were Dukes, his eldest brother would have been the Duc D'Orléans.  (eldest, meaning the first younger than he).

  8. The grand dutchess is grand

  9. Nothing, they both know how to spell.
