Those wires which are red, yellow etc, whats the actual difference? do scarts give better reception? why some dvd players dont have a socket where the scart lead goes on but where them coloured wires go on? thanks.

  1. They are just different connections that do the same thing,

In different countries around the world they use different connections. Theses days manufactures sell the same product in different countries, so believe it or not, it is cheaper for them to build units with various connections this way  they only require 1 production line  and don't have  to stop a production line change tools and start again or.

  2. Much easier to set up with a scart lead,

  3. SCART socket is a European standard, containing signals for RGB, sync, stereo audio etc etc.

By "coloured wires" I'll assume you mean Yellow, red and white phono connectors; yellow = composite video, red & white = stereo audio.

  4. They are both as good as each other.  On a standard DVD player/TV combination you wouldn't notice much difference between the 2.  It just gives you a couple of different ways to wire things up, that's all.
