  1. The first guy is right, a gazelle is just one specific type of antelope.  He's also right about the pronghorn- they're found here in North American.  We commonly (and technically wrongfully) call them an antelope when they are not- much in the same way we commonly use buffalo (an African animal) to mean American Bison.

  2. What he said.  You would be hard pressed to find a much better answer.  One note is they are all Artiodactyls -  or even-toed unuglates( hoofed animals)

  3. agreed gazelle are a type of antelope.. but antelope do occur in africa.. sable ant. for example..

and the buffalo doesn't refer to an african animal necissarly.. it refers to a bovine animal.. cows for example.. which are clearly inter-continental..

bison are related to deer and moose.. they are ungulates not ruminants..

  4. gazelles are in africa and antelopes are in america.

  5. 'Antelope' is a catch-all term for bovids (members of the family Bovidae, which includes cattle, sheep, goats and so on) with long, slender limbs. For example, wildebeest, topi, impala, oryx, nilgai, eland and kudu are all antelopes. 'Gazelle' is basically just the name we give to small antelopes, and again there are many species, including the Thomson's gazelle, Grant's gazelle, springbok and gerenuk.

In response to BIGgourami's answer, in zoological terms the only animals that should be called buffalo are the African buffalo and the Asian water buffalo. The American buffalo is more properly called the American bison, and there is also the European bison. All these animals are bovids, belonging to the family Bovidae, whilst deer (including moose) belong to the family Cervidae. Both bovids and cervids are both ungulates and ruminants - ungulates simply means 'hoofed mammals', and ruminants are those ungulates which chew the cud. One of the main differences between the Bovidae and Cervidae is that bovids have horns - unbranched, permanent structures of bone with a keratin sheath - whilst cervids have antlers - branched structures of bone that are shed and regrown every year.

  6. Gazelle is a type of antelope. By the way pronghorn aren't antelope.
