  1. Where in the world it happens and the direction of the wind!!

  2. a hurricane and a cyclone are the EXACT same thing. The only difference is where it forms. Cyclones form in the Indian ocean, and hurricanes form in the atlantic and the eastern pacific ocean. Typhoons form in the western pacific ocean. And they are called wily wilys in australia. CYCLONES, HURRICANES, TYPHOONS, and WILLY WILLYS, are all the same exact thing. They are just called different in other parts of the world .

  3. A cyclone is another name for a hurricane. A hurricane, typhoon, and cyclone are the same storms just different names.

-In the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific Oceans are called hurricanes.

-In the Western Pacific they are called typhoons

-In the Indian Ocean they are called cyclones

  4. Cyclone is a generic term for circulating storms/systems.

Hurricane is the biggest of cyclones, a super cyclone.

  5. Cyclone can either refer to a generic low pressure system, or a tropical cyclone (or "hurricane", in our lowly Atlantic basin). A hurricane is, of course, a type of cyclone (the first definition).

  6. A cyclone is a low pressure atmospheric mass. In the northern hemisphere they rotate counterclockwise. A high pressure mass is called an anticyclone and rotates clockwise.

Under certain circumstances, a cyclonic mass can get itself worked up into a frenzy and it will start winding itself up faster and tighter as conditions permit, until you end up with a hurricane.

Hurricanes and typhoons are the same animal depending on where you live. In the Atlantic (and often the North American Pacific coast, where they are quite rare) they are called hurricanes. Everywhere else in the world they are called typhoons.
