Whats the difference between a labrador retriever and a labrador?

Question

We might be getting either a male labrador retriever or a male labrador.... but whats the difference? Is one more relaxed than the other? Is one better at staying home alone than the other? can one stay home alone longer than the other? Is one less distructive than the other? Is one less aggresive than the other? please explain the difference and answer the above questions! thanx xx

There is no difference between the two. They are the same breed. Labs are not usually aggressive, unless provoked or trained to be. No dog should be left unattended for long periods of time, especially running loose in your home. Leave your puppy in his crate when he has to be left alone. All labs can be destructive if they are bored. When you leave your dog at home, make sure you leave plenty of toys and bones to keep him/her entertained, so he/she wont chew up your house. Labs are avid chewers, they LOVE to chew...and are extremely active dogs. Make sure he gets plenty of exercise, and attention.

are you sure you didn't mean golden retriever or labrador retriever? if it is they are both great. But labrador and labrador retriever are the same thing.

There is no difference, its the same breed. Labrador Retriever is the full name of the breed. Some people just shorten it to Labrador, or Lab, and some people even think the 3 color varietes are seperate breeds.

Labs are high energy, very people oriented dogs. They need lots of physical and mental stimulation or they will become destructive. They need training in order to control their excitement at meeting new people (all dogs need training) and in general they are not aggressive dogs. Although I have met a few poorly bred, undersocialized, and mistreated labs who were aggressive, this isn't the norm.

there is no difference. you are thinking of labrador retriever and golden retriever. the golden retriever is a golden color (obviously) and the labrador retriever can be yellow, chocolate, or black but they have a short coat. both are very loyal and loving dogs
