  1. A traditional college semester is usually 16 weeks long.  Classes usually meet twice a week for about 90 minutes.

A shortened semester are 8 week long classes, usually meeting once a week for a longer time frame.  I am taking three 8 week courses myself this semester.  My classes are 5 hours long (Graduate level)

A mini semester *might* be referred to as a summer or inter-session, which tend to be 3-6 weeks long.  They usually meet 3-4 times per week for about 3-4 hours each class.

Hope this is the information you were looking for!
