  1. Think of a kibbutz as a small town in a Communist nation.

Everyone gets the same thing, and works in a job that benefits the kibbutz.. such as farming, baking, cleaning, construcion etc...  its pretty cool actually, i have relatives that live in a Kibbutz.

A moshav is like small town/community run by a local council.

  2. On a kibbutz, all property is COMMUNALLY OWNED; on a moshav, there is individual ownership but farming implements such as tractors, etc. are SHARED! People do help one another, or a group can help an individual. In today's kibbutzim, not everyone works on the kibbutz, and kibbutzim such as M'tzubah are opting out. Kibbutzim also have factories and not just agriculture. There are also different Kibbutz Movements, but then again they do come together in such matters as education. Lastly, in many kibbutzim, the families eat meals at home rather than in the communal dining hall, and between us--on some kibbutzim, fathers' identities were not always certain! In the past, kibbutzim have produced the best soldiers due to the communal attitude, but many students are pursuing their own careers (which the kibbutzim ironically are paying for), and kibbutz members are pictured as wearing those trademark "tembel" hats, and as having mustaches. The kibbutzim are really an IDEOLOGY that is both conformist and creative!

  3. A moshav is a cooperative settlement consisting of independent small farms, or land farmed by the whole community with each family having its own house and garden.

A kibbutz is a communal farm or factory in Israel run collectively and dedicated to the principle that production work and domestic work are of equal value.
