  1. An exhaust is the function of an internal combustion engine removing the burnt gas that is created in the cylinders upon combustion,The pipes that carry it from the engine are called exhaust pipes. They carry the exhaust to the muffler which quiets or muffles the sound of the combustion. Then after it goes through the muffler,it goes through another pipe called a tail pipe, and that is how it is expelled from the vehicle. Thus we have pollution!!!

  2. The exhaust system is the pipes, catalytic converter, muffler, and DPF(if you have a diesel made since 2007) that pipes the exhaust from the engine to the back of the car. The catalytic converter cleans the exhaust gas, the muffler muffles the sound, and a DPF is another complex exhaust cleaner that is on all of the newer diesels.

Exhaust is just a term referring to the whole system.

  3. The muffler is part of the exhaust. The exhaust is the pipes and coming off the exhaust manifold to the end of the tailpipe

  4. an exaust pipe is the pipe the CO2 comes out a muffler makes the process quiter or louder (for people who like to be heard when they speed by :) depends on which one you buy or the car comes with
