well i am a left handed golfer. I know there is an easy way to explain this. i feel stupid for asking this. but give me an easy way to remember. like in footbal, the diffence between a flag or a post route. a post is towards the post, and a flag is toward the flags on the sidelines. is it that simple?

  1. The shot pattern for a slice in your case (left handed) would start right and turn to the left in the end.  A hook would start left and turn to the right in the end.

  2. If you are a lefty,  if the ball flies to the left it is a slice to the right is a hook

  3. I'm left-handed too.  An easy way to remember this weither you are lefty or not is that, a slice goes away from you and a hook goes toward you.  A slice is a major fade, and a hook is a major draw.

  4. The technical definition of a slice Is a ball that Starts it flight to the left of the ball to target line (a straight line drawn from the ball to the target) and finishes to the right of the target. (Right handed Golfer) A hook is a ball that Starts right of the target line and land left of the target.

  5. think of it this way

slicing it, you arnt getting enough of the ball, thus the ball goes away from your finishing stance.

Hook is you are getting too much of the ball and it hooks past your body and too your back side from where you want to go.

  6. I am left handed too. For a left handed golfer, a slice is a shot that starts where you are aiming and curves to the left. A hook is when it starts where you are aiming and curves to the right.

You could remember it like... Captain hook had a hook on his right hand, (hook/right)

    Hope this helps.

  7. Amateur way of saying Draw or Fade or seaman's way of saying Port or Starboard.

  8. Don't confuse a "Slice and Hook" with a "Fade and Draw"!

    Huge difference.

    For RIGHT-Handers (opposite for Lefties):

A SLICE is usually a shot that starts out close to center (or left) but curves way way right.  Usually ends up in the RIGHT rough; and not intentional or controlled. Results in loss of distance due to underspin and less ball roll.

A FADE is a shot that starts on left side of fairway and curves toward the center; not as drastic a curve as a slice; more controlled.  Underspin, so less distance, less ball roll. Better than slice.

A HOOK is a shot that starts close to center (or right) but curves way way left. Usually ends up in the LEFT rough and not intentional or controlled.

A DRAW is a shot that starts on right side of fairway and curves left toward center; not as drastic a curve as a hook; more controlled and more distance; more topspin, more ball roll.
