They are the same except some manufacturers refer to the glass sunroof a moonroof, since you can see out of it at night.

Generally moon-roofs are powered while sun-roofs are hand cracked or placed into position with a latch of some sort.

They were called sunroofs first.

Then Ford started using the name Moonroof just to be different.

It is just like the semi-automatic transmission.

They name them different things. Tiptronic, DSD, Rtronic, CVT, etc.
