  1. ticket examinator checks for tickets whilst the conductor keeps the peace

  2. A conductor can sell tickets

  3. Conductor takes the bulk of the fares on the lines they operate on        Examiners  checks your ticket is in order for the journey you are travelling..

  4. They usually have both on some intercity services (e.g. National Express, Virgin, GWR). A train conductor is responsible for the whole train such as making station announcements, sorting out problems with customers, toilets etc sorting out security and welcoming passengers but can also sell/check tickets

whereas ticket examiners just walk through the train checking everyone has the correct ticket and selling them to those who dont.

this is because the trains are longer and there are more passengers and they tickets are also more expensive, this is so they can make sure everyone has paid for their journey which is why they have a Revenue Officer (proper title) to concentrate on this whilst the Train Manager can focus on other duties.

on most local services (e.g. Northern, Southwest, Hull Trains etc) they just have a Guard who does all o this as the trains are small

  5. about £5000 a year
