  1. [ Bearded Dragons ]

Are members of the agamidae family, species pogona. There are a number of sub species, however the most commonly kept is the inland or central bearded dragon (pogona vitticeps).

They are named for the distinctive flap of skin which lies under the jaw - hence beard. The inland bearded dragon lives in the arid woodlands and deserts of central Australia. Wild types are generally a grey to fawn colour, while special captive bred animals can be a magnificent red, orange, yellow and even white.

They are omnivores so require a varied diet of insects, meats and greens/vegetables. Average adult size is about 50cm - lifespan 10 to 15 years on average.

Their colour is a grey/brown with a series of black bands on the back and tail, males can also display a bright red stomach and chest. They have enlarged scales forming a crest down the middle of the head back and tail.
