Question:

Whats the difference between acer p-series and value series?

So I'm trying to choose between two monitors acer p223wd and acer al2216wd. P is for premium series and al is part of the value series I think. That should mean the P series is better, it says it has high quality ratio in the specs. Value should be well, cheaper and not as good quality. However, why are the prices for both almost the same?! Amazon has the P one for a cheaper price than the AL one. Newegg has both for the same list price except the al one had a $50 discount. Tigerdirect has P series one for $220 and AL refurbished one for $190, so I'm guessing a non-refurbished AL one would be around the same price. I'm so confused! Please help me find the difference between the two!

The only difference I know of is contrast ratio. P series has a bigger one 2500:1 while the AL one has 700:1. But contrast ratio is really confusing too! Theres dynamic, static, black and white? whatever ratios and I dont know which is which so the two could be listed with different types of ratios! If they are listed as the same, then the P-series one should be better but why is the AL one so much more popular and selling for about the same price?

  1. The P-series is marketed as "leading edge" and for home entertainment, while the value series is mostly aimed at businesses. As for the price, I recommend that you look for the lowest price on a p-series model (don't forget to figure in the shipping cost). You need to also be aware of the "response rate" (2 ms, 5ms, 8ms, etc...). Faster (2ms) is better for action and sports and gaming. As for the contrast, the higher numbers should be better, but your best bet would be to go to a store and look at different monitors to get an idea of what you like (even if you end up buying online). "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", so you may be happy with a "cheap" monitor. If you can get it on sale at a local store, then if defective, you don't have the hassle of shipping it back to the online company.
