Whats the difference between anorexia and bulimia?

isnt anorexia and bulimic the same?

  1. They are not the same.  Anorexics hate the thought of eating food, and bulimics binge and purge.(eat A LOT and throw it up.) :)


  2. They are the same in the fact they are both dangerous eating disorders, but they have one distinct difference.

    In anorexia, you eat NOTHING.

    In bulimia, you binge eat frequently, feel guilty, then purge it all out soon after.

  3. Anorexics severely limit their calorie intake.  The become categorized as anorexic when they are 15% below their average body weight ( I believe it's 15, it's been a while since I studied this).

    Bulimics binge and purge.  They experience a loss of control of eating and then try to make up for it by purging (vomiting, taking diuretics, excessively exercising).  They are often average weight or possibly a little on the heavier side.

  4. In the simplest terms:

    Anorexia is when you try to lose weight by not eating.

    Bulimia is when you try to lose weight by eating but then throwing it back up again.
