Whats the difference between army mp 31a and 31b

Question

I know 31a is for officers, so do they do the same as normal MP's but just take leading positions?

I'm doing army rotc and I'm thinking about becoming an MP once I'm finished.

Any input would help (:

MP officers in a deployed environment do the same as the enlisted men, going out on patrols, etc.  In a garrison environment, I've never seen an officer on a patrol.

I don't know if you know this yet, but you don't always get the AOC you want after ROTC.  It's all needs of the Army.

Honestly if your doing ROTC then the best advise I can give you is to talk to a local recruiter and shadow a company of Reserve or Active duty MP's in your area!

Personally I think it's a great MOS but you won't always be doing Garrison duty like they advertise. MP also stands for multiple purpose meaning that we do everyone elses job but our own!

Another thing you must ask your self is do you want to be active or reserve, if your going active then you find your self doing a lot of everything in the Army, moving around a lot and deploying constantly as we are the force of choice for top military commanders.

Right now MP's are being cross trained at 31E - corrections so we are also in a transition, it is in your best interest to speak with actual MP's in your area and get a feel for the job before you jump in like I did.

Also consider what you want to do once you get out of the Army as well and will this MOS get you where you want to be! If you want to be a federal agent in the long run, CID or Intel may be your thing, if you want local or state police then MP's will get you where you need to be but it's hard to sum this all up for me as you have a lot of options going for you!
