  3. There's aussies instead of Tom Brady. lol

  4. Australian football is free flowing and American football is commercialised  too much for TV (although I do enjoy the highlight packages of American football )

  5. well, they actually sometimes kick the ball in Australian football.

    unless you play for geelong.

  6. Tim D you know nothing about aussie rules so shut your mouth.

Different 1#: oval pitch instead of rectangle

2: game is much more faster and freeflowing

    3: no pads

    4: players aren't payed 20 million a year

    5: 6 points for a goal, 1 point for a behind

6: the game is much easier to follow

.... and the list goes on

  7. Too many to explain. Australian Rules Football does not have anything in common with American Football. I suggest you watch a game to seehow different it really is! :)

  8. I'm an American, and American Football is my passion, but this past year I've really grown to love Aussie rules (Footy).

My take on the difference, if you're asking about Aussie rules:

The two sports really are so different. In fact, Footy, might be closer to Soccer, than American football.

As mentioned, it is a much, much faster game. The game play is only stopped for a few seconds at a time. It's one of the great things about the sport in my mind. These guys are constantly running around the field like soccer players. Their legs are like tree trunks!

Also, kicking is the most crucial abilty in Footy. You can run with the ball, but you have to dribble it (bounce) every few steps. You can pass it by punching the ball, but primarliy the players kick to their teammates to advance the ball.

You score by kicking the ball through goal posts (inner two is 6 points and outer posts is 1). You can't run the ball into the goal, but you can hit it through, for one point.

It is full contact like American Football, but they don't wear pads, and the play only stops for a few seconds when you're tackled.

Over all it's great sport, but I hear it's really only popular in the south of Australia? I hope I can make it down there for a match one day.

Carlton is my adopted team. I hope I chose well (even though they're out of the Finals this year).
