what is the difference between these:

Babolat Pure Drive Standard Cortex Racquet

Babolat Pure Drive Plus Cortex Racquet

Babolat Pure Drive Roddick Racquets

Babolat Pure Drive Roddick Plus Racquets

Babolat Pure Drive Team Racquet

Also, if you could recommend which one i should get as my secondary racquet that would be helpful. I am 5'8", 165 lbs (dont criticize, i have big bones >_<). I use very heavy spin and well placement, decent amount of power, and slow reflexes. I am a baseline player for the most part. I currently use the Babolat Aeropro Drive standard with cortex.

  1. most likely, the difference is the weight and there could be differences in what the racquet is made of...so yeah. i think that i would suggest lexilon big banger for your strings so that you could get more power because if you have heavy spin, you would still be able to keep the ball in, and still it it really hard.

  2. How about I just show you how to tell the difference yourself. I'm hoping that more people will read this with similar "What's the difference?" questions.

    Some basic racquet anatomy.

Head Size: larger head sizes (100+ square inches) are designed to give increased power and a larger sweet spot for starters. The larger head also opens the string pattern for more spin/control. 95 sq.in. and lower has a tighter string pattern, smaller sweet spot but adds a more crisp feel for more consistent players.

String pattern: Can be Dense or Open. 18x20 is considered more dense, more strings means a more solid (pop) stroke with slightly less spin. 16x19 is the more open pattern. Open patterns allow the strings to deform and grip the ball better adding spin.

Weight: Spin players want a lighter racquet <340g is generally good depending on skill level. >340g is for people with flat games, like serve and volleyers.

Balance: Head heavy, 50/50 or headlight. Head heavy is more power, head light is more control.

Length: Most are around 27in to 27.5in. shorter equals more maneuverability longer means more power and control on cross courts.

Stiffness: Stiffer the racquet is the less power it has. if the racquet is very stiff you are expected to have a very fast swing to compensate (rating of 65 or greater). Usually women, juniors and seniors want less stiff racquets.

It's rare that you find racquets that are 100% one way or the other. Most are a hybrid. E.g. a racquet with a large head but dense string pattern, light weight and head light. This would mean a larger head with more solid feeling strokes and more maneuverability. So look at them yourself and see if you can figure it out.

  3. the plus means means its an extended length racquet, I believe they are a half inch longer. the roddick versions are just half an ounce heavier than the non-roddick version. and the team racquets are just the older version of the cortex racquets. Some people say they cant tell a difference between the two, and some say the cortex feels less harsh on their arms. personally, I cant tell the difference and the team version is cheaper and looks better so I would go with that one. and your backup racquet SHOULD be the same as your main racquet, but since if that isnt an option I would go with the closest one to your main racquet, which would be the pure drive standard w/cortex.

  4. The difference between standard and plus is the actual length of the racquet. So Standard is 27 inches long while Plus is 27.5 inches long (its not much but believe me it makes a difference) it adds on to the reach of your shots and the maneuverability (at the net) and the heft of your groundstrokes.

Now the Roddick weighs approx. .5 oz. more than the regular pure drives (they weigh 11.2 and the roddick weighs 11.7). This results in a little more pop and gives you the racquet specs that a power baseline player like Andy Roddick would need. It does a stunning job on the serve and your groundstrokes but its not meant for a serve and volleyer at all. So this may be suitable for you if you can handle the added weight.

The pure drive is a little more control oriented and is more maneuverable for those serve and volleyers and players who like to get to the net a lot. It doesnt have as much pop but can help you with your spin more than the Roddick.

As for the Team, i really dont know to much about it. Its pretty much the same except for the stiffness and smaller things. Its closer to the pure drives in comparison than the Roddick though. Hope this Helps!
