  1. Blu-Ray is going to be around for awhile and HD DVD is going away very soon.

  2. They are just 2 competing HD formats. Blu-Ray is winning so far since it has almost all the movie studios behind it and HD DVD only has Universal, Dreamworks and Paramount.

  3. same as the difference between VCR & BETA - two competing formats - one will likely win - my moneys on bluray!!

  4. They started out working together but couldn't play nice.... Blu-ray has 75% of the studio support and is more than likely going to win the format war. HD DVD may have less storage capacity but it has better functionality and user features, and cost less. Buy blu-ray if you plan on upgrading. Both produce amazing HD pictures with the same video decoder so no noticeable difference in visuals

  5. I just heard it's only two companies  trying to make money out of the higher defenition stuff....

  6. Honestly, not much.  Blu-ray holds slightly more data, but HD DVD is cheaper and doesn't have to worry about profile updates because they requied all players to be able to decode picture in picture features and have Internet connectivity from the beginning.  Most current blu-ray players can't do either because they are profile 1.0, but some can do picture in picture profile 1.1.  The Internet connectivity profile isn't even ready yet.  The best blu-ray players are the ps3 and the hd dvd hybrid players.  Personally, I like HD DVD more, but Blu-Ray will probably win.  Both offer gorgeous hd movies in 1080p resolution.
