  1. The Open division is the top division.  It is the best teams in the country.  The club division is the rest.

  2. Open division is the best of the best. It's Number 1 Club is just a team you play on you can be top on club, but open you can play anywhere anyone!

  3. The main difference is how you qualify.

Open bids can only be obtained by playing in the open division of a qualifier.  If there are more than 15 teams, 3 bids are given out per qualifier--to the top 3 finishers, unless one of those teams already has a bid.

Club bids can be obtained in several ways:

    1) Through the club division of a qualifier--typically, the top two finishers get a bid.

    2) through your region. Each region gives these out in separate ways--some through a regional championship, others through a separate regional bid tournament, and still others through their power leagues.

Some other differances--there are 48 teams in both national and american club divisions, while there are 28 teams in the open division for each age group.

Also, for 16s-18s age groups, at nationals only, Open teams play 3 of 5 matches, instead of 2 of 3......
