The terms are often used interchangably so that they mean the same.

Colour blind should mean that you have achromatopsia and see only shades of gray, black and white.  This is a very rare inherited condition and best vision is 20/200 or worse.

Colour defective should mean that you a lacking the ability to see some colours but still see many.  This is also inherited , more common and vision is otherwise normal.

If you were truly colour blind you would also be legally blind and would know.
