  1. there is no difference, they are both a time when people didnt know a lot about what was going on, its debated when it started and stopped but its usually around the 5th to the16th century (400-1500's)

but there are also different dark ages, just periods in time in between civilization and progress (the roman empire and the modern age in that middle ages)

its really just a name for a time scholars dont know much about what was going on because it wasnt advancing much (the middle ages did do well in reserving articles of writing from people of the church who were scribes)

  2. the so called dark ages started after the romans left britain, but now historians suggest that they were not dark at all ,in fact some of the greatest inventions and forward thinkers of our time, instead of england going backwards it actually went forward more quickly than under roman rule,so there is a great misconception about those times,

  3. In English History I would date the Dark Ages from 410 ad (When the Romans departed) until 1066 (Norman Invasion)..

The Middle Ages can therefore be devided into three parts:

    1. The Dark Ages (See above)

    2. The Feudal Period (11th to 13th centuries)

    3. The High Medieval Period 14th and 15th centuries)

I would place an end date as 1485 (Battle of Bosworth Field), after which we enter the Early Rennaissance era (Tudor Dynasty)
