Coke Zero and Diet Coke are aimed at 2 different market segments (men vs. women). They also use different sweeteners.

They are both low calorie drinks when compared with regular Coke.

Coke diet is a coke original in which the sugar has been substituted for sweeteners that give it a particularly nasty taste and aftertaste. Only people with atrophied tastebuds will drink it.

Coke zero is a new attempt at making a coke diet which flavour is as close to the original as possible and succeeding.

as far as i know diet coke have very little sugar or sweetener on it while, while coke zero have negligible amount of synthetic sugar, and while regular coke have regular amount of sugar to taste it sweet.

Coca cola contains sugar as a sweetener. The other two contain a varying amount of artificial sweetener known as Aspartame. This has been considered to be carcinogenic, a fact denied by manufacturers. If you look at all diet drinks at the supermarket you will see it included as a sweetener. (read the small print on the product). The main drinks such as Coca cola, Seven Up, etc. all contain sugar as a sweetener. The choice is yours, mine is the sugar.

Fed up woman got it right, diet coke just like zero coke does not contain any sugar at all. In fact both rely entirely on artificial sweeteners for their sweetness and these may vary from country to country.

Coke zero is an attempt to produce a better tasting (than diet coke) sugarless coke.

The recipe for the two sugarless cokes differs a lot from that of the original coke it's not just that one has sugar and the other two don't.

The difference is both the artificial sweetener and the syrup formula. Diet Coke is sweetened with Aspartame. Diet Coke's syrup formula is slightly different from Coke Classic. The Diet Coke formula was introduced with a high fructose sweetener instead of Aspartame and labeled New Coke two years after Diet Coke was introduced. New Coke was soon abandoned, but Diet Coke is still produced. Coke Zero is sweetened with Aspartame and Acesulfame Potassium. It's syrup formula is the same as Coke Classic's. Coke Zero is supposed to be a no calorie equivalent to Coke Classic and avoid the the word Diet in its name. Diet Coke is a no sugar equivalent to the now discontinued New Coke product. The difference in taste comes from the differences in the syrup formula and the artificial sweetener.

a mate of mine used to work at the cola plant loading the trucks. The load was 26 pallets of diet coke or 24 of normal. the reason. . . . . . . . the 24 pallets of normal wieghed the same because of the 2 tonnes of sugar extra. Doesnt really answer the question mind.
