10 ANSWERS

  1. The dvd+r is better quality

  2. Actually, a dvd-r is not rewritable.  Neither is a dvd+r.  The two formats that are rewritable are dvd-rw and dvd+rw.  "r" for read and "w" for write.

DVD-R and DVD+R were just two different standards that emerged a long time ago because different companies had different visions of the future.  Same as VHS and Betamax.  Interestingly, though, instead of one becoming more popular than the other and the other disappearing, most hardware manufacturer's simply started making burners and readers that could use both.  That's why many have both a + and a - before the r.

  3. DVD-R and DVD+R are two different formats of DVD-recordable discs. Both are blank DVD media that can be recorded onto with a compatible DVD-RW drive.

It's not as much of an issue nowadays, but in older units (and in some units to this day), you might only be able to play the -R or +R type.

Additionally, there are DVD-RW discs, which can be written onto, and the re-written onto repeatedly. These can sometimes prove more tricky on DVD players.

Finally, there are Dual-Layer DVD -R, +R, and -RWs. These cost more but have more storage capacity.

Check your DVD burner or player to make sure it's compatible with whatever type you're using (-R or +R) when you write data to your blank discs.

  4. Its just different standers.   (Kind of like HD DVD and Blu-Ray)

Sony came up with DVD+R (and CD+R)  which was faster, but newer.  Pioneer and Toshiba I think came up with CD-R and DVD-r.  Slower, but more backwards compatible for older DVD players.   But now days all the DVD burners you buy can do both DVD-R and DVD+R.  And most people have newer DVD players so there really isn't that big of difference anymore.

  5. DVD-R and DVD+R are just different formats. DVD+R was an attempt at being more compatible with regular DVD players, but most DVD players these days can read all sorts of formats

  6. dvd +r means its rewritable.

That means once u burn something onto the cd, u can later on burn more things and over-write it.

with dvd-r you cant burn things onto it more than once.

  7. they are the same. Dvd r is dvd recorder.

  8. DVD+R(W) has a more robust error management system than DVD-R(W), allowing for more accurate burning to media independent of the quality of the media. *edit* Chinese is wrong, that is the difference between DVD-/+R (writable once) and DVD-/+RW (rewritable)

  9. These should help  ...

Both answers above me are wrong + and - are two types of format, (how things are written to the dvd/cd).  If it says RW then it is rewritable. Example : DVD-RW / DVD+RW.

The formats you have mentioned are write once, read multiple times. The ones I just mentioned are wrote multiple times, read multiple times.

  10. nothing really..almost all new dvd players/writers are compatible with both
