  1. Freestyle are park snowboards.  They are shorter and lighter.

Freeride boards are meant to hold up to high speeds and are longer and stiffer than freestyle boards.

All mountain boards are a little in between both and it depends on the board manufacturer and model which way it leans toward each.

  2. Each of these types of snowboards is designed for a different type of riding.  There is not such things as one snowboard that is great at everything.  So, there are different types that are aimed at satisfying different kinds of riders.

Freestyle is focused on jumps, rails, spins, and so forth.   These boards are typically shorter and have a softer flex than average.  They often have an edge bevel that helps reduce the chance of catching an edge on features and landings.

Some people group pipe boards in with freestyle, but while great at spinning they are generally stiffer than other freestyle boards (better to hold an edge with).

An all mountain board is typically stiffer than freestyle but not as stif as freeride.  The all mountain board is the all-around do most things well board.  The target is likely the ones who cruise the groomed trails but like to mix it up with some freestyle stuff.

The free ride board is usually stiffer and designed to carry more speed, whether it is in powder or on groomed terrain.

Keep in mind there are many other differences (sidecut, stance options, etc).  Also, note that in each category there is an entire range of boards.
