Whats the difference between leasehold and letting?

when u let a property, is that leasehold,

is it the same , or what is the difference ?

  1. leasehold means the property is under obligation by the 'owner' to apply for a new lease once it expires - the leases are really long... always over 60 years.

    The opposite to that is called a freehold, which means the property is not on a lease, and directly owned by you.


  2. No, a leasehold is what you have if you don't own the Freehold on a property - you pay a yearly amount but can usually negotiate to buy the Freehold.

    Letting is a  month to month thing - you own neither the house or the land.
