  1. I'm almost positive they're the same animal with just two different names. You can call a grizzly bear a brown bear too,.

  2. Sting rays are much smaller than Manta Rays. Manta Rays are also known as Devil Rays or Devil Fish, but the name is not well earned. They are harmless unless they land on you or your boat because Manta Rays jump out of the water from time to time, nobody is quite sure why.

Sting Rays don't, they live on the bottom and will almost bury themselves in sand. If they do this close to shore, and a bather steps on one, they will give you a very painful "sting" with the barbs on their tail.

Manta Rays eat plankton. Sting Rays eat larger stuff.

Manta Rays have a tail but no poisonous barbs.

Manta Rays are black and have an almost white belly.

    Sting Rays are gray.

Mantas have big mouths on the front of their body with "barn door" lips to funnel in the plankton.

The mouth of the sting ray is on it's underside.
