Whats the difference between premium petrol and normal petrol?

petrol has different octane levels at different stages

of it's refinement process.

extensive refinement achieves a higher octane rating,

thus the higher price.

The higher octane rating provides a small increase in performance or economy (you can't have both) If you buy this fuel for economy, the saving in fuel burned is off-set by the higher price. In most cases there is no saving to be had.

If you buy the fuel for faster acceleration you are unlikely to notice the difference, but the psycological effect might make you believe your car is faster and take more risks.

Personally I think it's a waste of money, stick to the regular stuff.
