  2. Having done both of these disciplines I feel that I am very qualified : ) to answer this question. Simply put:

    Psychology= Mental processes

    Sociology= Social discourses

    Meaning, sociology is concerned with the study of society and psychology is concerned with the "psyche" or a persons mind. This however is not to say that these two disciplines are so easily distinguished- take for example your social psychologists or community psychologists- and often the questions we ask as psychologists are also being asked by some sociologists. What separates the two however is the methods in which each discipline explores and attempts to explain these questions.

    As for work- it all depends on where you are in the world. I, for example am in Australia, and I know for a fact that when my degree finishes at the end of this year, I will find very little work in the field of psychology unless I go on to higher, post graduate degrees.

    Hope this helps. xx

    Oh and I consider psychology to be better than sociology... to me, sociology just seems like a really weak and pointless area of study really... but this is just MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION! : )
