  1. the reasons they're taller is the lineouts. In union the second row(locks) get lifted for the lineouts so you need to be over 2metres tall basically to be any good at international level. In league they just hit the ball up. Anyone can play it if u loving hitting the ball up. In league some players have gone from centre to second row. In union you simply couldnt do that

  2. They are totally different.

In union their main tasks are to secure the scrum and lineouts.

In Union they are driving the scrum forward.

In league scrums don't really exist.

    Same with lineouts.

In union they are competing for the ball in the air, usually getting lifted by their front rows.

In league that just doesn't happen.

I'm not knocking league second rows at all.

    just a totally different role.

A League second row is more like a Union ball carrying flanker or even a large centre.
