I will answer a small part of what is really a difficult question. There are Blends and single Malts. I am a big fan of single malts, especially Highland malts like Glenmorangie. and by the way Hops are in beer, not scotch, that I know of. Cheers

  11. Scotch  is THE Whisky -   Whiskey is the yucky Irish version ...

Please note that for purposes of national pride, the word Whisky in Scotland is spelt as whisky.

However, in Ireland, for the same purposes of national pride and of course to ensure people know where it's coming from, the word is spelt as whiskey with an 'e' before the 'y'.

  13. Scotch is Scottish whisky (pls note the spelling), it is only spelt whiskey in Ireland and America. It has a different texture and taste and is brewed differently from different materials to other whiskeys including America, rye, bourbon, scotch and of course your Irish.

  14. Scotch is just one type of whiskey.  As is bourbon and rye.  "Whiskey" is a more generic term.  Scotch has a more distinctive, smokey flavor that wouldn't mix well in a highball such as a whiskey sour.

  15. scotch is called scotch and whiskey is called whiskey, so the difference is their names LOL

ok...seriously...whiskey is Irish and yummy and Scotch is even yummier =]
