Whats the difference between termites and flying ants?

  1. Termites have 2 body segments and flying ants have 3 (just like an ordinary ant).

    EDIT: Sounds like you need an exterminator. The sandy looking stuff might be from the ants trying to build a nest in your walls near and around the outlets. Is that where they are coming in from?
