Whats the difference between the Canada & Americas spelling vocabulary?

I'm a canadian, but I'm wondering why Canadian and American people have to spell certain words differently?

We both speak English, and that means we should keep every english word spelled the same in Canada and America!

ex: American = Favorite Canadian = Favourite

American = Color Canadian = Colour
