Whats the difference of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII?

I love final fantasy but then I hear that a FFXIII and a FF vs. XIII is coming out. Is there any difference between both of them?

Yes, Tetsuya Nomura (Kingdom Hearts) is directing Versus XIII, it will have a darker theme than the typical FF game.

Yes, they are different stories being told on the same planet, with different characters.

Not that much informations has been given regarding the plot of FFXIII versus, other than you are playing a Prince who is the heir to an unnamed kingdom in which the last Crystal is kept.

While FFXIII you are a girl named Lightning, who is really the female version of our beloved Cloud Strife. She is a race known as fal'Cie and she is also the enemy to all humanity and will bring the downfall to their world.

Yeah both stories are entirely different. You play as different characters and the game play is different as well. FF XIII will have the classic FF turn based fighting and FF XIII versus will be more like KH, an action RPG. I for one will be getting both.
