Whats the difference between a roost deflector and a chest protector in MX?? My dad says that a chest protector protects more because it is made of "high grade" plastic and that a roost deflector is only hard foam and wont do anything to protect you. I honestly dont see the difference but maybe somebody out there does.

  1. Well, it really depends on your riding style. Alot of motocross racers use chest protectors and some use roost deflectors it's more about comfort and mobility. But, it really matters where your riding at(example): some tracks or trails have a soft surface(like sand or very loose thick dirt) a roost deflector would be great for this terrain and then you have some tracks or trails that are hard packed and have dryed chunks of dirt this is always great for a chest protector. And freestyle riders use body armor it's a one piece mesh shirt with chest, elbow, kidney, spine protection. Really it depends on what you want and how much protection you want.

  2. Some tracks will produce rock like dirt clods that will do serious damage with out a chest protector...most tracks aren't like that...when I raced I wore neither and never had a problem...that was in Florida though...no issues down here...i raced a few times out of state (ga., N.C., and caught a few rocks/clods but nothing that bothered me...not to brag but I rarely had anybody in front of me...and was NEVER beaten to the first turn. p.s. I used to beat Jeff Ward as a kid...I saw he took 2nd place at the recent xgames moto-x...among his many other professional accomplishments. I had an AMA experts license at 15.
