For example in my town I see this Exxon gas station and for regular gas it cost $4.39 and just down the street, less then 2 min away Chell gas station is selling regular gas for $4.57. I don't understand is there something different in Chell gas ?? why do ppl even buy gas over there if u can see the other gas station from the other one?

  1. There is no difference. The oil-refinery produces it, the gas hauler pulls up with his logo of Exxon...next gas hauler has Shell etc. "Drive like you have a tiger in your tank" Exxon. In economic terms all Gas Stations exist in what is termed "Perfect Competition". Essentially we all know the prices, so in order to be different, they come up with cute little jingles " A tiger in your tank..." but in the end, it's the same refinery with a truck and a logo.

  2. All gas is pretty much the same.  Some of the so called top tier gas claims to add extra detergents.  I personally see no advantage.

I recently had the cylinder heads of of a newer car with about 150,000 miles on it.  The owner always used the cheapest fuel available.  On this engine, the valves and combustion chambers were relatively clean.  I don't think they would have been any cleaner if the owner had been using top tier fuel.

I think the so called top tier fuel is a gimmick to make a few extra dollars.

  3. The only difference is the additives added at the station level, otherwise it's exactly the same product.

  4. It  is SHELL
