I mean some people refer to $5,000.00 as 5k, and others 5g's

Because G means grand, so what is K?

  1. The best that I have been able to deduce is that it comes from Kilo.  A 5K race is 5,000 meters, a 5Kg weight is 5,000 grams.  Because of that it got picked up as a way to abbreviate larger numbers.
