I am talking about the kind of pole shift that is connected to the 2012 theory.

  1. Pole shift is talking about changing the rotational axis of the Earth - either by moving the 'skin' around, so Antarctica would no longer be the south pole as an example, but the alignment of the rotating axis would leave Polaris as the North Star, just a different part of the planet would rotate under it...  Or, a huge force would actually change the rotation - similar to moving a gyroscope's axis of rotation - a lot of energy!

Geomagnetic reversal is actually fairly common in geological history - the magnetic pole flips - so what is now magnetic north would become magnetic south - that is a function of the rotation of the liquid iron core (magnetohydrodyanmics) and does happen although we don't understand why specifically yet....
