well the difference bettwen the two is that

preserving somthing is to try and keep it there like a forest or somthing that will youse forever

and to conserve somthing is to like save it for a rainy day

like gas, or water,  or air

Conservation means taking care of any unspoiled material, natural or man made, so that they do not get damaged. Whereas preservation means taking steps to correct the damage already done to any material .

Both are actually two sides of the same coin. They share the same concept and idea.Both ultimately are concerned about total environmental good.
