I have three baby Red-ear sliders...( turtles )

I got a lamp for study tables...and I found out is a halogen light. They sell thosse lamps for basking in the petstore.

So they sell those lamps with halogen in it in the petstore...can I use the study table one instead cuz I already got it. UVA or UVB is a light for the turtles that they feel is like a sun.

So my questions are...

Can I use the study table halogen light for my turtles? ( res )

What are the diffrence...???

..................

I hope you can help :D

I dunno if i spell *halogen* right.... ( plz tell me how to spell it when u know....thx )

  1. There is a HUGE difference. Any type of house bulb can not replace what the sun does.

you 100% need to buy a basking lamp+bulb, you buy them separately, then s***w the bulb in ( 50 watts) and shine it on the basking dock over a mesh hood( cut a hole out of it and place the light there!).This is very important, you need a uvb light. It is a long thin light, you need to get the actual lamp+ the long skinny bulb. Reptosun 5.0 is the best bulb( together costs $55). Shine that onto the basking dock as well. Turtles need these together because they use the uva for heat, so they stay warm ( the basking site should be 90-95F, not colder) and they need the uvb rays to metabolize calcium and vitamin d3 for a stronger shell ( like you need it for your bones!)

  2. No, halogen is not the same as lights made that put off UVB rays.  Turtles must have UVB.  There are fluorescent type bulbs that fit into fixtures that are made just for reptiles.  Repti-sun and Repti-glo are 2 good brands.  These bulbs need to be withing 12 inches of the basking platform, and on for 12 hours a day.  They need to be changed every 6 months as they lose potency.

"Sunlight" or "Natural light" bulbs only put out light in the UVA spectrum and are not sufficient.
