A supercharger is an air pump driven mechanically, usually via the crankshaft. It pumps extra air into the engine, allowing more fuel to be introduced into the combustion chambers as well. This will result in an increase in horsepower.

A turbocharger, or more correctly a turbosupercharger, is an air pump that is driven by the exhaust gases of an engine. It uses two turbine wheels, one driven by the exhaust gases directly connected to the compressor turbine wheel pushing air into the engine.

Both perform the same function, but in different ways.

The turbo charger is inherently more efficient, because instead of sapping power from the crankshaft to power it, it taps into the wasted energy in the exhaust.

Most superchargers are a positive displacement design (there are some exceptions, such as the Vortech or the Powerdyne), where they mechanically squash the air into the engine by forcing it into constricting chambers and then into the engine, whereas turbochargers use the properties of Bernoullis principle, to accelerate air into the intake manifold faster than the engine is using it, creating an elevated pressure environment in the manifold.

a turbo is easier on the motor because there is no physical connection  where a blower or supercharger is a belt driven air displacement devise which can make 200HP and use 75 to drive it so 125 actual gain Don't get me wrong blowers are cool they make a ton of low end torque or you can have one that acts like a turbo and gradually builds the boost
