Whats the diffrence in marlin 336 models?

I want to buy a marlin 336 but cant decide what models best for me.

Internally, their all basically the same. whats best for you would depend on what you plan to do with the gun. deer close up or in brush, get the 30-30. For more open areas, the new 308 marlin might be the way to go.  If you plan to hunt by stalking, I wouldn't advise the stainless steel version. It would be ok from a blind or stand.

I like the scoped model I believe it is the SC

I don't particularly like the scope but I do like the thumb extension on the hammer

the 336 C is the basic model.  If you want a 35 remmy instead of a 30-30, you need to get the C

the 336 W is available only in 30-30, but that is fine, most folks who want a 336 want it in 30-30, but the biggest difference is that it has a gold plated trigger and fancy wood.  It will perform the same, you are paying for looks only

the 336 SS is just like the C model, except it is stainless steel.  Here you are paying for somethign that stands up to the weather better.  However, to me it is stupid to not combine this with a polymer stock which also stands up to the weather better.

The 336 XLR is the same as the 336 SS, except it has a laminated stock, which is more weather resistant than regular wood, but it also has a 24 inch barrel.  Many guys who want lever action guns want short 20 inch barrels, or even 18 or 16 for fast woods handling, they don't want 24 inch barrels, again, this is up to you.  Further, the 336 XLR has a shorter magazine tube, it can only hold 5 shots, not 6.

The 336 308MX is the same as teh 336 C, except it is chambered in a fancy new ammo type instead of the tried and true 30-30, and the barrel is a little longer too, 22 inches

I think the 336 C is probably your best bet
