  1. I call them trotting poles but 3 human strides!

    Hope I helped!

  2. 4 normal walking strides. Try it with poles first and then alter it to suit your horse, or get someone else to do it to save you getting on and off. It should matter too much if it is slightly out because you can practice lengthening and shortening your horses pace, and this will help you to set up your strides to jumps aswel.

  3. i use 3 big human strides to judge the distance for my 15hh2 horse, and that suits her perfectly :)

  4. depends on how big your horses stride is, but also how many strides you want to get in! about 3 normal strides makes up one canter stride, but if you want it collected or extended then you can make it 4 or just less than 3. when i make my horse do canter poles, i put about 4 just over 4 srtrides apart, and it really makes her stretch and lengthen her stride!

    good luck!

  5. Depends on the size of the horse.

  6. Do you mean a placing pole - as in one pole a little way in front of the jump? If so, its about 9ft but can vary by about 6" depending on your horse's stride length. For under 14.2 I'd use about 8ft 6".
