  1. check the wires and if that doesnt work  replace it also check the switch that  could be bad and the fuse

  2. If you are going to work on it, fix it right so you don't have to mess with it again.

Bilge Pumps cost $12.00 at the local Walmart. For that price, why mess with one giving you problems. Replace it.

You can get liquid electrical wire coating in a can that brushes on the wire connections. It drys to form a water tight coat around the wire splice. Cost about $5. for a can. Don't have to worry about the wiring connections getting wet.

Total cost for a professional repair is less than $20.00 Like I said before, do it right and you won't have to do it again.

  3. cut the wire and throw it away. Like gavin said-if you get the same type-you will not have to re set the base. Also tie the wire splice above the water line so it will not get wet. You may find that your old on is just fouled with fish line or stuff. Ck the fuse, it may have got over loaded. If the old pump was real hard to get to- mount the new one where you can get to it. Its better to have an inch or two of water in the boat with a pump you can service than to be dry and then need a pump you can't get to.

  4. If  you have a atwood or mayfair you can replace just the cartridge that way you don't have to unscrew the base of the pump some of them can be really hard to get depending on the layout of the boat.

  5. You would be well served to just replace the pump.  If it has failed the  motor could be bad, so even if you get it working it may fail again when you need it the most.

Should be an easy repair job, just make sure the connections are good and sealed to protect from water, try to place the connections as high as you can, out of the bilge area if possible.

    Good Luck and Safe Boating!!
