First of all, don't try to get into a short parking space.  Give yourself a little extra room for peace of mind.  I'm assuming you have a manual transmission, since you shouldn't have any trouble with an automatic.  With a stick shift, at least you don't have to change gears: If you're headed uphill you use 1st gear to go forward and let gravity serve as your reverse gear.  For downhill you only need reverse.  Use the same clutch technique as for starting on a hill, using the handbrake to keep from drifting downhill while engaging the clutch.  If you are delicate with the clutch and gas pedals you can keep the engine speed at about 2000 rpm where it will have enough power to move the car without stalling but not race (which would burn out the clutch lining).
