  1. It won't hurt you, but it won't help you. Augmentin (amox/clav) is an antibiotic-- it has a threshold of activity above which you won't get any more antibiotic effect. Taking too much can cause an upset stomach though. The best way to take it is as the doctor says... twice a day or as close to every 12 hours as possible. With this drug, the effect comes from the amount of time that you keep a small amount of the drug in your body, not how high the peak concentration is. So, taking more won't clear up the infection faster, nor will it have really bad side effects.
