  1. EARTH=)

  2. The fastest planet in our solar system was named after the speedy messenger god Mercury.

Mercury travels at an average rate of 47.36 kilometers per second 29.42 or miles per second in it's orbit around the Sun.

Mercury's top speed is 58.98 kilometers per second 36.64  or miles per second which translates to 131934.50 MPH.

As quick as Mercury travels, it spins quite slowly, taking 58.6 Earth days for Mercury to spin once on its axis.

The fastest spinning planet is Jupiter, taking just under 10 hours to spin once on its axis, rotating at a speed of 28,273 MPH.

Since Jupiter is a gaseous planet the poles rotate a bit slower than the equator, Jupiter's day varies from 9 hours and 56 minutes around the poles to 9 hours and 50 minutes close to the equator.

  3. Asteroid 2008 HJ smashes the previous record for fastest rotating object by 35 seconds. The previous record holder was asteroid 2000 DO8 (discovered eight years ago) with a rotational period of 78 seconds. This new discovery comes from a new project funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), which gives UK schools and colleges access to the world-class Faulkes Telescopes based in Australia and Hawaii.
